Compendium of Heathkit Radios

    by Marty Drift WB2FOU

PO Box 21 Blawenburg  NJ 08504

    Wb2fou@aol.com

Reprints of Heath ads and catalogs

    Note from KB9JJA:
This is a compilation of Heathkit advertisements on 380 Ham related items. The book contains 112 photo coped pages of Heathkit Ads, and catalog pages, it is spiral bound. It also includes a article by Marty Drift on restoring a Heath AT-1, and a article on the Apache TX-1

As the book contains photocopies of catalog pages and such, the quality is not the best. All the text is readable and usable though. Contains much usable information. ( I got my copy from W7FG Vintage Manuals not Marty Direct)

Heathkit: A Guide to the Amateur Radio Products
    by Chuck Penson WA7ZZE

Comprehensive guide - great photos and info

    Note from KB7RGG (3rd Ed.)
Great news - this book is now available in a new and greatly expanded 3rd edition. It has a 60-page introduction and 426 pages divided into 14 chapters. If you never got a copy of the either of the earlier editions, here is your chance to get one. It can be ordered here.
    Note from KB7RGG (2nd Ed.)
The first edition has been out of print for some time but a new 2nd edition was printed. Chuck has informed me that he has "a contract with CQ Publishing to print the book". Copies are available from the usual book sellers. In addition to the Ham radio material, Chuck has added non-ham products that were popular shack accessories--like clocks and weather equipment. About 60 additional products have been added including an all new section on Heath's CB equipment. The book also has a complete tube chart, sales data, a new ER index, and a new introduction. The section on collecting has been almost completely rewritten, and extensive rewriting has been done elsewhere. The old book had 250 pages while this new one has 328. If you are into Heathkit, you need this book.
    Note from KB9JJA (1st Ed.)
Chucks book was loaded with information on Heathkit Amateur Radio Products. Each item included a picture, detailed description, manufacture dates, and original selling price. Also included was the History of the Heath Company, Information on Buying and Collecting Heathkits, and Master Product Indexes by model number, and types. I find myself constantly referencing information from the book, and have almost worn mine out. This is a must have book for anyone interested in Buying and or Collecting Heathkit Ham Gear.

Heath Nostalgia

To order the book send a check or money order for $15.00 made out to Terry or TAPTRON
    A note from Terry: 11-29-1997

      Subject: Heath Nostalgia book update
      Heath fans...
I've decided to reprint the book Heath Nostalgia.
For those who might have missed the original postings, Heath Nostalgia is a quality 124 page softcover,
with sections on company history, pictures from the archives, and the remembrances of a number
of long-time employees (the largest section). It will sell for $15 postpaid.
      Terry Perdue (K8TP)

      Note from KB9JJA
Terry's book covers the Heath story from the 1900 through 1992 when the book was first written. This book does not cover any technical information, but instead contains the History of the Heathkit company. It also contains many stories from people that worked at or with Heathkit through the years. The book has many pictures of many of the people at Heathkit, as well as the buildings, and assembly lines.
From the back of the book:

While you read Heath Nostalgia you'll recall the thrill of opening the box, unpacking and sorting parts, and checking off the steps in anticipation of applying power to the finished product. And you'll learn more about the company's heritage and the people who made it all possible.

I found this book very enjoyable, and could not put it down until I had read cover to cover. I highly recommend it for any one interested in Heathkit
